Years ago, when I wrote about The Gate, I said something that I meant as a warning and that has since become a description. I said that the further you are, in terms of sensory experience, from being able to confirm a thing, the more room The Gate has to shape what you believe about it. History, I said, is easy to manipulate because you were not there. And then I added: for that matter, even events that you personally witness can be tempered by The Gate. Such is its power.

I was talking about a filter inside the mind. I did not imagine that the world itself would become a thing you could not trust.

Everything you can see or hear can now be made.

A face, a voice, a scene, a document, a piece of footage from an event that never happened, in a place that does not exist, said by a person who never said it. Made to order, in minutes, indistinguishable from the real thing to every sense you have. This is not a prediction. It is a product. And it has arrived at exactly the moment when most of what we know of the world, we know through a screen.

Sit with what that does to the oldest question on this site. How do I know what I know? I used to say: trace it back to your senses. If you saw it, you have a floor to stand on. Everything above that floor, everything reported, recorded, told, is where The Gate does its work. But the floor was solid.

The floor is gone. What your senses report, through a screen, can be fabricated as easily as any rumor. The eye can be lied to as fluently as the ear. There is no longer any recorded thing that is trustworthy because it is recorded.

I want to be honest that this frightened me more than anything else in the decade, more than the farm, more than the port. The farm can be pointed at. The port can be refused. But this is the collapse of evidence itself, and without evidence there is no trivium, no discernment, no path to truth that I have ever described here. If a thing can look exactly like proof and be nothing, then proof is over.

I sat with that for a long time. And then I found what is under the last floor, and I want to give it to you, because it is the most important thing I have learned since I came back.

The floor was never the recording. The floor was you.

Go back to the beginning of this site. The bartender in the dream. The pattern in the blade of grass. The lives under trance. The download that came through my open eyes in the dark. The cave, the light chamber, the release in the back of my neck. Not one of those things came to me through a screen. Not one of them was recorded. Every one of them was direct: a thing that happened in my own perception, in my own body, with no medium between it and me.

I used to apologize for that. I used to say: I know this is only my experience, I know you cannot verify it, take it for what you will. I still say that. But I understand now that the apology had it backward. The direct experience was never the weak evidence. It was the only kind that cannot be manufactured for you, because it does not pass through anything that can be faked. Nobody can generate a synthetic version of what you felt in your own spine.

This is the practice the whole site has been circling, and I can name it now.

Move your knowing off the screen.

Not all of it. You have to live in the world, and the world is mediated. But the load-bearing part, the part you would stake a decision on, the part you would call truth: put it on direct experience, and only direct experience. What you have seen with your own eyes, in the room, not on a display. What you have done with your own hands. What you have found in your own mind, in trance, in the quiet hour, in the sessions I have described here for years. Everything else is a report, and every report is now, at best, a hypothesis.

There is a hard corollary. If you cannot experience it directly, hold it loosely. The news, the footage, the outrage, the miracle, the confession, all of it. Not disbelieved; held loosely. The Gate has always wanted you to believe hard in things you cannot check. The machine has made everything you cannot check into something that might be made. The only answer is to believe hard in less, and to go and check what you can.

I have spent years teaching a practice of going inward, and I have never been sure it was the right use of a life. I am sure now. When every window can be painted, the only view you can trust is the one from inside the house. Learn to see from there.

This closes the first arc since my return. I have walked through the machine as it stands: made from us, harvesting in daylight, reaching for the skull, visible on the land, opaque to its own makers, computing our futures, and dissolving the evidence of our senses. That is the shape of it. The next arc is about the thing the machine was built to imitate, which is the one thing it has never been able to see: the instrument you are looking through right now.

May you find and keep the truth, life, and light.
