I ended the archive on a question I could not answer: how does one revoke consent to a system that took it by default? This arc answers it. The quiet hour comes back, and someone is in it. The gold device in the cave turns out to have been a lesson about the thing we have since built. There is a withdrawal, an experiment I should not have run, a failure the machine’s builders discovered that I had been describing for years, and at the end, the answer, which was simple, and which is different for the few than it is for the many.
